TopoPro Research Project

Overall goal

The research project aims to improve the site characterization of industrially usable forecasting tools through high-precision measurements of the turbulent wind field, as well as with meteorological turbulence resolving site analyses and high-resolution flow simulations of wind turbines.

The overall objective of the proposed sub-project is to analyze the effects of the turbulent atmospheric boundary layer using new drone-based turbulence measurements and coupled numerical simulation tools.

From this, a "best practice" procedure for industrial site assessments with a focus on complex terrain will be developed. This research is essential for the evaluation and improvement of industrially applicable tools for the prediction of the energy production, because complex terrain shapes in combination with different thermal conditions pose great challenges.
